Making Labels Stick To Bins

As most of you know I LOVE to label everything!  Not only label things, but I absolutely a.d.o.r.e. labeling everything with cutesy labels.  I love designing the labels too, and you’ll find all my designs RIGHT HERE in my Etsy shop.  My hubby teases me… he says that if I could, I’d label him and the boys too. ;) Silly guy! Most of the time I remember their names. ;) BUT just like most moms, there are times that I’ll call out all four of my boys’ names before I get the right one. ;) Don't you do that?

The labels in my shop have become some of my most popular sellers.  There are even edit-able labels.  These are PDF files that you can type your own words in.  Believe me, I’ve gone back to many of them to quickly label something and it’s so nice and convenient!

BUT how in the world do I make the labels stick to bins or baskets?  This question has been emailed to me multiple times.  So many times that I decided it was time for a specific post on how to attach the labels to bins.  

I’ve talked about the Xyron sticker makers in some of my previous posts. 

 

My very favorite sticker maker is the 5” create-a-sticker.  I got mine from Wal-Mart.  You can find them at Craft Warehouse and Michaels as well.

It’s super easy to use too!  Here’s the how-to:

Purchase your favorite label shape and design in my SHOP, then simply edit (the ones that are edit-able) and print your label. Cut them out with a paper cutter or scissors and if you’d like to, you can laminate the label. (I recommend laminating labels that will be handled often.)

Next just slide the label into the front of the create-a-sticker. Turn the knob and…

VOILA!  It’s a sticker!!  Just like that! Simple as pie.

Pop your new sticky label right onto a bin, basket, tote, wherever and you’re done.

You can get permanent or removable cartridges.  So you can choose if you want to be able to take it off the bin/basket in the future.  I like to use the permanent cartridges.

and the smaller sticker maker works similar and can also be found in the same stores.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Xyron create-a-sticker(s)!  The 5” one is currently one of my most favorite things in my craft room!

Storing Children's Hand Me Downs & More

Good Morning!!  Hope you all had a fabulous Memorial day!

Last week I showed you the storage closet that I organized and told you that I would share more about what I store inside the bins. Today I'm showing you a peek inside.

One of the bins holds home décor, two house Halloween costumes, but most of the bins consist of clothing.  Some are filled with my winter clothes and  maternity clothes, but the majority of the bins hold my boys’ hand me down clothing, shoes, winter gear, sports gear and such. 

While re-organizing this closet the other week, I went through each of the bins and got rid of  some of the items inside.  Those items went into the garage sale. More on the garage sale coming soon.

I had the bins semi-organized and sort of labeled before, but decided that it was time to put large, easy to read labels on them.  I recently received an email asking if I offered large editable labels for bins so…

…these ones are now available RIGHT HERE in my shop.  The great thing about these labels is that you can type whatever wording you want.

Not only does the newborn bin have newborn clothing, but I also store bottles, blankets, baby towels and anything else that I would be using for a newborn baby that fits inside.

I didn’t photograph every single bin, but as far as the boys’ hand me down clothing, I have separate bins for the following:

• Newborn 0-6 months
• Boys 6-12 months
• Boys 12-24 months
• Boys 2 & 3 years
• Boys 4 & 5 years
• Boys 6 year
• Boys 7 year
• Boys 8 year
• Boys 10-12 year
• Boys shoes
• Sports gear

Once my boys outgrow the size that they’re in,  I simply go to this closet and switch out the clothing in their drawers/closets, replacing them with the new sizes and adding the clothes that are too small for them to the proper bin.

Super easy!  I’ve had this system for 12 years now and it works just great.

I have a separate bin for boys hand-me down shoes too. 

Inside the big bin, I’ve organized the shoes by size in small Dollar Tree shoe bins.

The way that I’ve stacked the shoes, the lids don’t fit, but since these are inside another bin, I’m okay with that.  I just store the lids inside, in case I decide to use the clear shoe bins for something else someday.

I have a separate bin for winter hats & gloves and…

… winter jackets and ski pants for the little guys.

and a few different bins for some of my clothing.

Inside this closet I also have 2 large bins of Halloween costumes too.

and that’s what I store inside this closet and how I store my children’s hand me down clothing.

To label the bins in this closet, I used these editable labels that are now available in my shop.  You can use them for whatever you want, for personal use only.

Organized Fabric & Sewing Supply Cabinets

Happy Monday Everyone!  Hope you had a great weekend!

Today I’m showing you how I’ve organized my sewing supply cabinets.  Not that I do a lot of sewing (I’m certainly not that great at it.) BUT I do like a “custom” look in my home and to get that, without paying “custom” prices, I have whipped up a few curtains and pillows in my time.

I store my sewing machine and supplies in my laundry room.  Later this week, I’ll show you the entire laundry room reveal.  I designed the room to have lots of cabinet space.  These upper cabinets are where I keep my sewing supplies.

My awesome sewing machine was a garage sale bargain that I got quite a few years ago.  (Thanks Darla W.)  If you remember, I got this one from you and it’s been so great to have.

To organize these cabinets, I found some more dollar tree baskets.  You already know that I’ve used Dollar Tree baskets and bins throughout my home.

I took all of my material pieces and went through and organized them by color, throwing out really small pieces and ones that I don’t think I’ll use.

I can assure you, I don’t have near as much material as my mom.  If you missed the post on organizing her sewing room, you can view it HERE.

Here’s the cabinet directly above the sewing machine.

I attached command hooks to the inside of the cabinet doors.

One side holds my ruler and cutting mat…

… and the other side holds my large scissors.

My supplies basket holds my little scissors, pin cushion, seam ripper and other supplies.

These little plastic holders are also from the Dollar Tree.  I think there might have been six to a pack.

Those rectangular labels can be found in my Etsy Shop HERE and these ones are edit-able. Simply type in the words that you want on the labels and print.  (The font style and sizing can not be changed.)  You can use these labels wherever you want.  Labeling whatever you wish.

The top drawer holds cutters, iron-on patches and my sewing machine tools.

The middle drawer holds buttons and zippers,

The button makers are organized inside little containers.

and the bottom drawer holds my thread.

threaded bobbins are stored in another one of those small plastic containers, inside the thread drawer.

and the rest of the cabinets hold all those dollar tree baskets I showed you earlier.

These round circle labels can be found in my Shop HERE.  Again, these ones are Editable. (not to be confused with edible ;)

It’s so great to have these cabinets in order.  Makes finding exactly what I’m looking for, simple as pie.

So if I wanted to, I could spend more time sewing and not so much time looking for items that I need.
